This Mexico destination wedding at Dreams Playa Mujeres was just that, a dream…

After two years, I was finally able to travel again and shoot a destination wedding in Mexico—to say I was excited would be an understatement.

Laura and Nik had their wedding set at Dreams Playa Mujeres, and boy, did the resort blow me away, it was just so beautiful. Playa Mujeres, Mexico is an amazing island paradise where the weather is always warm, the water is crystal blue, and simply put, relaxation reigns supreme. I LOVED that I got to spend the week there with the couple, their friends, and their family.

On the first day, Nik and Laura held a welcome dinner-slash-party, which was amazing. Kudos to Laura who did all the planning; the welcome dinner is so fantastic because you got to meet other people who are part of your group for the week. There was also a group excursion on our second day there, which was another first for me, because all the group excursions I’ve seen at weddings happened after the big day, not before. We got on a catamaran and visited the beautiful Isla Mujeres, and of course it was another chance for everyone at the wedding to mix and mingle again. I highly recommend having a welcome party and group excursion before the big day, it makes the rest of the week that more social and fun for everyone!

And then the big day rolled around… 

With all of the good times and relaxing things we did the previous days, including getting to know everyone, I was just so excited to capture all the prettiness that was about to unfold. It was a bit gloomy that day, and I was staying positive in that it doesn’t rain. Fortunately, in the morning and during our photo sessions, the rain held off. But I knew Laura and Nik’s tropical theme will be perfect, despite the weather. Stepping into the wedding ceremony and reception, I was obsessed with the beautiful Monstera and Palm leaves that lined Laura’s bouquet and their arch. 

Can I also say that I loved that the bridesmaids wore all white. It looked so stunning with all the greenery, don’t you agree?! There were some spurts of rain during the reception, but we pulled through and it honestly made for the most memorable reception I’ve ever photographed. It was the most fun. Thanks to my lovely partner Gary who held an umbrella over my head while I took all the fun shots during the dance party!

After the wedding, we had three more days and we spent them just relaxing, sunbathing, and enjoying the beach with all our new awesome friends. After two years of the pandemic, this destination wedding was truly worth the wait.
